Dear Parents/Guardians:
We want to hear about your experience with your student’s education. We invite you to participate in completing the Utah School Climate Survey. This survey includes questions about your student’s learning, school safety, and interpersonal relationships, as well as your attitudes about the institutional environment and your personal involvement in school. Your responses will be very helpful in improving student relationships, learning conditions, and the overall school environment.
Beginning today, April 24, 2023, we invite all parents, guardians, and caretakers to complete this survey for our school. The survey is completely anonymous; it contains 33 questions. You can take the survey online by using the following unique school link: SURVEY LINK. Please submit your responses by May 5th.
All your responses are completely anonymous. We have no way to connect you to your answers, and results will only be reported as group responses. There are no right or wrong answers. We just want to know about your personal experiences. Responses are housed securely in an anonymous format with The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) for evaluation research purposes. All evaluation research projects are in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, (343 CFR 99.31 (6)) and human subjects regulations (Protection of Human Subjects 45 CFR 46).
As you respond to each item, think about your own personal experiences as a parent, caregiver, or guardian at your student’s school. Please answer all of the questions. When you have completed the survey, click on the “Next” button at the bottom of the page. You are done! Thank you for your time and opinions.
We hope you will take the time to provide us with this valuable information. Each school’s total survey results will be used to inform and develop appropriate strategies, procedures, and/or programs to enhance our school climate.

We hosted students in the elementary education program at Utah Valley University. They presented computer science lessons and learned a bit about how our school operates.

A post designed to make some of us feel old. This second grader was so excited to share this VCR that they used in the olden days.

Students are investigating light, shadow, and color in STEAM this week.

Spring cleaning has begun. Thanks to our custodians (aka Mr. Chef and Mrs. Marshall) work hard to keep our school clean.

Oh the places we've been! Students brought in a special item from a trip they've taken. They shared about the trip then wrote about it. We also received these very cool student atlases to read.

Students are reading like crazy to earn inches of duct tape so their teachers cant go on spring break! it only counts if they read all the words so this is hard work.

Mrs. Marshall received well deserved recognition tonight from San Juan School District. We love her!

A fun week ahead!

In an abundance of caution and concern for staff and student safety, San Juan School District is designating a “Late Start” on Wednesday, March 1st for all schools in the district. A “Late Start” means schools will begin at 10AM for all students. For bus students, all buses will arrive 2 hours later than the regularly scheduled time. The storm is forecasted to be in the county for multiple days, so we strongly encourage all stakeholders to frequently monitor the school/district webpage and App for any updates as things progress. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
La Sal Elementary will be having a virtual learning day tomorrow. Please complete the work that was sent home today. If you have any questions please contact me through our normal means of communication. Stay warm and safe!
Update! The situation has changed to a snow day for all La Sal and Monticello schools. Stay home and stay safe!
Due to high winds and weather conditions causing multiple power bumps, there will be a late start for Monticello and La Sal schools. Doors will open at 10 am with school beginning at 10:25. Dismissal and lunch will remain the same.
La Sal Elementary will have a 2 hour late start tomorrow. Doors will open at 10 and classes will begin at 10:25. Lunch and dismissal will remain the same.
Mrs. Klassen is our music and art teacher. She is a talented musician who plays violin and spent time with bluegrass bands.

Everyone at our school strives to improve. Mr. Chef has been working on his rice krispy treat recipe. I'd say he has it right!

Kindergarteners are learning to add using a number line. Pro-tip--rulers work great for number lines!

In the event of a snow day or late start at any point during the school year, I will contact each family via text message or phone call. Any changes to the school day will also be posted on Facebook, on our website, and on the SJSD app before 7 am. If there has been no communication, it will be a regular school day.
Ms. Jen comes in and volunteers every day. She is very helpful, especially in teaching kids reading. Today she got her very own desk.

Happy new year! I hope your break was fantastic. Tomorrow is a teacher work day and school will resume on January 3.
